Mr. Rod Bushey, M. M. Ed.
Director of Choirs
Rod Bushey has been teaching choral music at Howell High School in Howell, Michigan for the past thirty-six years. His high school choral program has over three hundred students enrolled in eight performing ensembles. His students have developed a reputation for outstanding choral performances at concerts, consistently high marks at choral festivals, and numerous appearances both locally and throughout the state of Michigan. His 100-voice A cappella Choir has toured for the past thirty years the states of Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Canada. The Howell Choirs have produced six full-length recordings across the past 32 years.
In addition to his teaching, he has served the MSVMA as an adjudicator and is presently a member of the Executive Board, where he has been treasurer for the past 4 years. He has also hosted Honors Choirs, District Solo and Ensemble and Choral Festivals. In 1999, Howell Public Schools named Mr. Bushey “Educator of the Year”. Rod has earned a B.A. in Music Education from Olivet Nazarene University in 1972 where he recently completed a six-year term as president of the Olivet Alumni Association. He also holds a Masters in Music Education from Michigan State University [1980]. Beyond the public school, Rod held a Minister of Music position for twenty-five years in four different Nazarene churches, with 19 years of service at Detroit First Church of the Nazarene. He is married to Cindy, also a graduate of Olivet, for the past 38 years. More importantly, Rod and Cindy are the proud grandparents of six grand children and enjoying spoiling them as often as possible.
